ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Myra Singleton Johnson grew up in a small southern town on the banks of the Tallapoosa River. She was educated at Tallassee High School and Auburn University at Montgomery. She enjoyed a career in office administration spanning over half a century in the fields of Landscape Architecture, City Planning, Urban Renewal, Architecture, and International Construction before retiring in 2013. A love of history and writing allowed her to have published articles in Lake Martin Living, River Region Magazine, Wetumpka Area Magazine, and Alabama Living. She was a contributing writer for The Elmore County Heritage Book project. Ms. Johnson is a founding member of Talisi Historical Preservation Society and served as Director of Grants, Historian and Curator for the Tallassee Falls Museum, retiring from that position in 2019. She is a founding member of Alabama River Region Arts Center and served on its Board of Directors. She has been a member and officer of United Daughters of the Confederacy, Camp Watts Society, Friends of Tuckabatchee, and the Mt. Vernon Theater Restoration Group, serving on the Operations Board of Directors. She was co-host of the Dovard Taunton Art Exhibit held at The Trophy Room museum in conjunction with the city-wide Tallassee River Fest event each spring. She is a member of Tallassee High School Alumni Association. Her volunteer efforts in various other organizations are too numerous to list. In addition to her writing, she owns and operates Huntn4bears Genealogy & Research Services.
Through a love of genealogy and family history research, coupled with a love of her hometown’s history, she has authored several books and one cookbook. Ms. Johnson makes her home among family and friends in the southern Alabama town where she grew up. She may be contacted at [email protected].
